China v Netherlands

> In the only previous Olympic encounter between these nations, China emerged victorious 2-1 in a group match in Sydney in 2000. Ping Yang Hui netted a pair of penalty corners for China, before Margje Teeuwen pulled one back for the Dutch.
> China's only other win over Holland in a competitive match came at the 2003 Champions Trophy, when the Chinese prevailed 1-0.
> In the last six competitive encounters between these nations Holland have racked up four wins and two draws.
> Their last competitive encounter was the bronze medal match in this year's CT in Mönchengladbach. Holland won 3-0 courtesy of goals by Marilyn Agliotti, Wieke Dijkstra and Eefke Mulder.
> After two matchdays in the competition, Holland's Maartje Paumen leads the Beijing 2008 top scorer table. Her four goals have all come from penalty corners.

Spain v Korea

> This will be the fourth time these nations meet in the Olympic Games. Their first meeting saw Spain prevail in the semifinals of the Barcelona 1992 Games, with María del Carmen Barea Cobos' extra time winner bringing a state of delight to the home crowd.
> In 1996, Korea avenged that loss with a 2-0 triumph in the group phase. Their most recent run-in, a 2000 group phase match finished goalless.
> Korea and Spain are two of four teams that have lost their opening two matches in Beijing 2008. Korea have lost twice by a one goal margin and Spain have been defeated 3-0 by China and 6-1 by Australia.
> Korea have scoed from two of five penalty corner opportunities in Beijing. Spain have scored their only goal of the tournament from one of their eight penalty corners.
> Spain (9), South Africa (9) and Korea (8) are the teams that have conceded most goals in their first two matches in Beijing.
> Spain have lost nine successive Olympic matches and are winless in 12 consecutive Olympic matches.


South Africa v Australia

> There has been one previous Olympic encounter between these nations. In group match four years ago, Australia triumphed 3-0 with Julie Richardson, Suzie Faulkner and Peta Gallagher appearing on the scoresheet.
> Each of the five previous competitive confrontations between these teams has resulted in an Australian victory.
> The Hockeyroos have scored a tournament leading 11 goals in heir first two matches of the competition. Their 11 goals have been scored by seven different players.
> South Africa is the only nation that has failed to score so far in the Women's Hockey competition in Beijing.
> Australia have converted four of their eight penalty corner attempts in Beijing. South Africa have only converted one of their nine opportunities.
> Australia have come from behind to win in each of their two matches in Beijing.
> South Africa goalkeeper Sanani Mangisa will celebrate her 21st birthday on the day of the match.
> South Africa's Jenny King is the only female hockey coach at Beijing 2008.
