Target group: Boys hockey players, 10-16 years old
Number of participants: About 100
Number of spectators: More than 200 (including parents)
Program: The Olympic Day Run 2008 and the centennial movements of hockey in Olympic Games was held at Theinbyu Synthetic Hockey Pitch, Yangon, on 21 and 22 June.
On 21 June morning, two under-16 hockey teams held a tune-up match.
As part of realizing the aim entitled 'World Hockey Youth Challenge 2008' adopted by the FIH, the young students from basic education schools participated in the basic technique contests, Dream Hoops, Dream Pentathlon and five exercises of Dream Skills, in the two days of hockey activities.
Refreshments were available for all participants' throughout the event and prizes were given to winning teams and youths.
Aim of the event:
To remember the Olympic Day (23 June)
To honor the 100 years of hockey in the Olympic Games and
To increase the interest of playing hockey and the skills of basic hockey technique.
Result of the event: The event attracted so many young hockey players to love hockey. 100 years of hockey in Olympic makes the young boys proud as a hockey player.
Follow up:
- In September/October Myanmar Hockey Federation will organize Umpire Training and Players Coach Training with the help of FIH.
- In October, MHF President' Cup Tournament will be held at Yangon for local teams including student teams.
