Obituary - Muhammad Qasim

Pakistan is mourning the death of the former Olympian Muhammad Qasim who has died after a brave battle against cancer aged 32.

The goalkeeper was laid to rest in his home town, Gojra, on Thursday 26th October and leaves a widow and a daughter.

He had received extensive treatment at home and in the USA after sustaining a chest injury in a practice session which developed in to cancer and was diagnosed in late 2003.

Qasim made his international debut in 1998 going on to represent Pakistan at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the 1998 and 2002 World Cups and in four Champions Trophies where he won a silver medal in 1998 and bronze in 2002.

He also played in two Commonwealth Games and five Azlan Shah Cups, winning three gold and one silver medal.

Qasim made his last international appearance at the 2004 Azlan Shah Cup and earned 81 caps for Pakistan.
