Obituary - Feroze Khan
Just months after celebrating his 100th birthday and becoming the oldest living Olympic gold medallist, the former Pakistan forward, Feroze Khan has died.
Khan played in the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam representing pre-independence India. He was born in Jalandhar, India, and began playing hockey using a tree branch as a stick.
A skilful inside forward, he never played for Pakistan but was a selector when Pakistan won its first Olympic gold medal at the Rome Games in 1960. He retired from playing in 1938 and moved to Pakistan after it was carved out of India in 1947.
On his 100th birthday on 9 September last year, he received a message from the president of the International Olympic Committee, Dr Jacques Rogge, acknowledging his achievement.
Feroze Khan was born on 9 September, 1904. He died on 20 April, 2005.
