New Zealand 4 Korea 3
Phillip Burrows was the toast of the New Zeland side after he hit a hat-trick, including two in a seven minutes spell at the death, to steer his side to a stunning 4-3 victory over Korea. Trailing 3-2 with eight minutes left in the match, the Kiwis launched a superb late assault to rock the Sydney silver medallists and clinch their place in the prestigious Champions Trophy in Lahore in December.
Holland 3 Germany 2
Holland remained on course to fulfill their dream of securing three successive Olympic titles when they beat arch rivals, Germany, 3-2 to earn a place in the final. Supported by a capacity crowd and a huge army of fans wearing their traditional orange, the Dutch conceded an early goal but were right back in the match two minutes later. They took a 3-1 lead after the break, netting twice in five minutes and although Germany pulled one back they paid the price for missing four penalty corners and some hesitant play at the back.
Pakistan 3 India 0
Pakistan destroyed India's hopes of a top six finish when they won the battle between the two Asian giants 3-0. After a dull first half with neither side able to break the deadlock, Pakistan opened the scoring eight minutes after the interval and with India forced to chase the game, the green shirts added two more late goals to make it through to the 5/6th play offs where they take on New Zealand.
Australia 6 Spain 2
Australia swept in to their first final since 1992 when they crushed highly fancied Spain 6-2. In an extraordinary contest the superior work rate and finishing skills of the Kookaburras was to prove decisive as they took a 3-1 lead at half time, before thrilling the crowd with a scintillating display after the break. After Spain fought back to make it 4-2, three goals in sixteen minutes effectively killed off Spain's hopes as a jubilant Aussie side celebrated a historic win.
