South Africa to Meet GB for 9/10th Match
25 Aug 2004 10:33

 South Africa  5  Egypt  1

Greg Nicol inspired South Africa to a convincing 5-1 victory over their continental rivals, Egypt, when he scored a hat-trick to take his tally to seven in the tournament. The Proteas were always in control over their less experienced opponents, leading 2-1 at half time before Nicol completed his treble with two late strikes to seal the scoreline.

Their win sets up a contest against Great Britain for 9/10th place, with Egypt facing Argentina to avoid a last place finish.

 Great Britain  4 Argentina  1

Great Britain returned to form after suffering three crushing defeats to comfortably beat Argentina 4-1. In blistering temperatures, both sides worked hard to break the deadlock but it was Britain with two goals in the closing stages of the half who seized the initiative. Three minutes after the restart they went 3-0 up and although Argentina reduced the deficit six minutes from time, GB were rarely threatened and broke away on the counter to complete a comfortable win in the 67th minute.
