Oceania Fights Back in Morning Matches
24 Aug 2004 10:33

New Zealand  3  Korea  2  (golden goal)

Lisa Walton was the toast of the Black Sticks after scrambling the ball home in the second period of extra time to steer her side to a 3-2 win against Korea. But New Zealand had to withstand a determined fightback by the Koreans who recovered to level the scores at 2-2 in a three minutes speall after the break after trailing 2-0 in the 8th minute.

 Australia  3  Japan  1

Australia set up a clash for 5/6th place against Oceania rivals, New Zealand, after they hit back from 1-0 down to comfortably beat Japan 3-1 in the classification game. The fast improving Japan team took the lead midway through the first half but the Hockeyroos responded to score twice in a six minute spell before the break with captain Katrina Powell adding a third a minute after the restart to get her team back to winning ways.

Australia will play New Zealand for 5th and 6th positions, while Korea and Japan go on to fight for 7th and 8th places on Thursday.
