Emphatic Win for Spain
19 Aug 2004 18:52

SPAIN 5 GREAT BRITIAN 1

A devastating first half display laid the foundations for an emphatic win by Spain after they raced in to a 4-0 lead. Taking complete control after the interval, Spain created a succession of chances as the British team lost their shape and struggled to cope with their opponents' lively forwards.
In a tight group, Spain climbed in to third spot behind Germany and Pakistan.

Maurits Hendriks (Spain coach):
"We didn't play badly in our first two matches so we did really well to put together such a good performance. Great Britain simply don't have the style to put pressure on us at the back."

Craig Parnham (Great Britain defender):
"It's really tough for us now - we have to beat Germany and Pakistan in our last two games to stay alive and that's a tall order."
