Skills and Thrills at Helleniko
17 Aug 2004 20:07

HOLLAND 4  NEW ZEALAND 3

Holland left it late but a goal two minutes from time by Sander van der Weide spared the reigning Olympic champions's blushes as they grabbed a last gasp win against New Zealand. The Kiwis put up dogged resistance against their opponents fighting back from 1-0  and 3-1 down to level the scores before a wonderful run by Teun de Nooijer set up van der Weide for the winner.

 SPAIN  1  GERMANY  1

Two of the pre tournament favourites, Spain and Germany, shared the spoils in a hugely entertaining contest filled with skills, thrills and the odd flare up between the players. As expected in the "group of death" competition remains intense as the sides battle it out for a spot in the top four.
Santi Freixa fired Spain ahead with a cracking reverse stick shot after 28 minutes with Christoph Bechmann levelling from close range six minutes from time.
