Pakistan Crushes Egypt
17 Aug 2004 19:12

PAKISTAN 7-0 (5-0) EGYPT

Roeland Oltmans, the Pakistan coach,  has launched a scathing attack on a section of the Pakistan media following  suggestions that Sohail Abbas, the world's most feared penalty corner striker, had deliberately missed penalty corners against Germany because he had played for a club in Hamburg last year.

Speaking at the end of the press conference after Pakistan's crushing 7-0 win against Egypt and where Abbas powered home four goals, Oltmans demanded the press rectify the situation. The Dutchman, who steered Holland to the gold medal in Sydney said: "This has badly affected the player, his team and his family back home.

"It is disgraceful that these things are written about one of the game's greatest players and already my Olympics are ruined no matter what happens here."

Oltmans refused to name the media outlet and said he believed it was up to the entire Pakistan press corps to put matters right.
