Late Scare for Aussies
17 Aug 2004 11:26

ARG 2 - AUS 2

Argentina came within five minutes of causing an upset against the highly fancied Australian team but a late goal by the Kookaburra's ace forward Jamie Dwyer rescued a point in a superb 2-2 draw.

A big crowd basking in the sunshine was treated a wonderful exhibition of attacking styles with Dwyer and Mario Almada demonstrating their devastating finishing ability. The result sets up an intriguing scenario in the group with tonight's matches to come.

Barry Dancer (Australia coach).
'They didn't throw anything at us that we didn't expect, but I'm disappointed because we needed the points. We can play better than that.'

Max Caldas (Argentina defender):
'The umpiring was very, very poor because the the penalty corner striker is still being run down. But it was a fair result and Almada's goals were world class. After that performance we're right back in it.'
