Grand Masters World Cup at halfway mark
17 Sep 2008 23:52

Joint team photo after the match Hong Kong v Scotland

The Grand Masters World Cup has reached the half way mark.   Due to horse racing at Happy Valley tonight, only two matches were schduled this morning and for the others, a rest day to see more of Hong Kong and our neigbouring city Macau. No surprises in the results so far.  England, Australia, Germany and Hong Kong are through to the Grand Masters play-off but it is still too early to say who will make to the Final.

The star of the tournament has really been Scotland Great Grand Master George Dunbar with 71 years of hockey under his belt.   George Dunbar, at 88, is the oldest player at this year's tournament.  Hong Kong is a lot different now to the Scot when compared to his last trip here 65 years ago during WWII.  The heat in the unusually hot September here did not seem to bother the Scot very much and in fact majority of the players had coped well as games were mostly scheduled in the morning and evening.

The Grand Masters play-off will begin tomorrow at 6:30pm (Thu) and the Final will be played on Sunday.
