Teams qualified for 2010 Champions Trophies

Australia won the ABN AMRO Champions Trophy 2009

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) would like to announce the teams qualified for the ABN AMRO Champions Trophy 2010 (men) and the Samsung Champions Trophy 2010 (women).

For the 2010 Champions Trophies, the following qualification criteria occur:

The following countries shall qualify ex-officio:

  • The Champions of the previous Olympic Games
  • The Champions of the previous World Cup
  • The Champions of the previous Champions Trophy
  • The host country
  • Winner of the previous Champions Challenge I

The other countries and the reserve countries shall be in order of those finishing in second and subsequent places, either in the previous Olympic Games or in the previous World Cup, whichever is the more recent.

The order of these countries shall be used to provide the necessary additional countries, to produce the six competing countries and the reserve countries

  • where one or more countries qualify ex-officio under two or more headings

or

  • where one of more countries - including those qualifying ex-officio - do not wish to participate or withdraw.

By applying these criteria, the following countries are qualified:

ABN AMRO Champions Trophy 2010
Men, 31 July-8 August 2010, Monchengladbach (GER)

  • Germany (as the Champion of the previous Olympic Games and the host country)
  • Australia (as the Champion of the previous Champions Trophy)
  • New Zealand (as the winner of the previous Champions Challenge I)
  • The Champion of the Hero Honda FIH World Cup 2010, if not already qualified ex-officio.
  • The two next ranked teams of the Hero Honda FIH World Cup 2010 who are not already qualified ex-officio. (or three in the event that one of the teams already qualified is also the World Cup Champion)

Samsung Champions Trophy 2010
Women, 10-19 July 2010, Nottingham (ENG)

  • Netherlands (as the Champion of the previous Olympic Games and the Champion of the previous World Cup
  • Argentina (as the Champion of the previous Champions Trophy)
  • England (as the host country)
  • New Zealand (as the winner of the previous Champions Challenge I)
  • China (as second ranked team of the 2008 Olympic Games)
  • Germany (as fourth ranked team of the 2008 Olympic Games)
